Dr. Fred Mugambi Mwirigi
Dr. Fred Mugambi Mwirigi is a distinguished scholar and leader with extensive experience in academia and public service. He currently serves as the Head of the Kenya School of Revenue Administration (KESRA), a position he has held since May 2019. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Commissioner in charge of Academic and Students Affairs at KESRA from April 2016.
Dr. Mugambi holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship, a Bachelor of Business Administration with First Class Honours, and a Diploma in Small Enterprise Management from Galilee International Management College in Israel. His academic journey and expertise are marked by significant contributions to the field of entrepreneurship and education.
In his career, Dr. Mugambi has made notable contributions to various educational institutions. He was the founding director of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology's (JKUAT) Mombasa Campus, where he served for seven years. During his tenure at JKUAT, he rose to the level of senior lecturer and taught for 11 years. Additionally, he has been involved in teaching at Kenya Methodist University and has professional experience with Kenindia Assurance Company.
Dr. Mugambi has played pivotal roles in various national and international initiatives. He chaired a task force appointed by the Education Cabinet Secretary to select the board of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) under the Ministry of Education. He also led the committee that successfully prepared JKUAT’s bid to supply digital devices for free primary education, which the university won.
As an academic mentor, Dr. Mugambi has supervised 12 PhD students and over 35 Master's students to graduation. He has published three books, including the notable "Leadership Beyond the Boardroom," and has authored over 30 research papers.
His appointment to the KRA board as part of the Authority's transformation agenda reflects his commitment to leveraging technology and enhancing revenue mobilization through better data utilization and efficient customer service.
